Beekeeping Courses in Canberra

We run a number of beekeeping courses, mainly during spring and summer. To attend events held at the Canberra Region Beekeepers club apiary, please ensure that you are a current financial member of the club. Beekeeping for Beginners

Our popular two-day complete beekeeping courses will give you a great foundation for caring for and managing your own hive/s. Our experienced teaching team will cover the fundamentals of keeping honey bees in Canberra, as well as guiding you through a number of hands-on sessions to build your confidence working with bees. The informational content of the course includes:

  • honey bee behaviour and biology
  • practical hive management
  • pests, diseases and bee biosecurity
  • swarms
  • honey harvesting

Varroa mite monitoring and management demo (plus apiary day)

When: Saturday 30 August, 1pm

Where: Canberra Region Beekeepers club apiary, 2 Dairy Road Fyshwick

What: Phil Andrews from Capital Region Beekeeping Supplies has kindly offered to run a free varroa mite testing and management session. This is a great opportunity to see demonstrations of varroa mite testing/monitoring methods including sugar shake and alcohol washes as well as learn about various control options. Phil will also have samples of products which he stocks, in case you are curious to learn more about these products, what they look like and how to use them.

Depending on the weather, this information session will likely coincide with our first apiary day for the season. You do not need to register but you do need to be a club member to attend this free event.

Cancellation Policy

The Association will accept cancellation of the nominated course up to seven days before the course date. Under these circumstances, the Association will provide a full refund or if preferred, allocation to the next available course. If cancellation occurs within seven days of the course date but the reason for cancellation is due to extenuating circumstances, a full or partial refund may be granted at the discretion of the committee.
